I Was Scammed Out of Bitcoin, What Can I Do Now?
If you were scammed out of Bitcoin, preserve your transaction records, secure any remaining assets, and investigate where the Bitcoin went. Bitcoin transactions generally cannot be reversed by a bank or simply cancelled, but tracing the funds may reveal useful leads. Whether recovery is possible depends on the circumstances and available evidence.

1. Stop Further Losses First
If the scammer still has access to your wallet, email, or exchange account, secure those accounts immediately. If your wallet’s recovery phrase or private key has been exposed, create a new wallet securely and transfer any remaining assets to it.
Stop communicating with anyone pressuring you to send more Bitcoin to unlock an investment, pay withdrawal charges, or supposedly activate a refund. A demand for additional payment does not prove that funds can be recovered.
2. Find the Bitcoin Transaction
The most useful starting point is the transaction ID, also called a TXID. It identifies a particular Bitcoin transaction and allows its movement to be examined on the blockchain.
Check the withdrawal history of your exchange or the transaction history in your wallet. Record:
• The Bitcoin transaction ID (TXID).
• The sending and receiving wallet addresses.
• The amount of BTC transferred and the date.
• Screenshots or receipts showing the payment.
• Messages, emails, website links, and account details associated with the scam.
If you sent Bitcoin to a fake investment platform, preserve the account balance and withdrawal screens too. These may help show what the platform promised, even if its displayed balance was fabricated.
